4 April travel destinations!
April is one of the best months to travel in Europe. Spring is in full bloom, the weather becomes milder, and some of the continent’s most beautiful festivals take place. If I were planning your April escape, these are four incredible destinations I would recommend; offering something unique, from flower festivals and flamenco celebrations to alpine music gatherings.
Zermatt & Unplugged
Zermatt is one of the most picturesque destinations in Switzerland. Nestled at the foot of the iconic Matterhorn, this charming car-free village combines breathtaking alpine scenery, traditional wooden chalets, and world-class mountain cuisine.
One of the highlights of visiting in April is Zermatt Unplugged, a unique acoustic music festival held over five days, with more than 130 concerts since it first launched in 2007. In 2026, the festival takes place from April 8–11, bringing international artists to intimate venues surrounded by snowy peaks; an unforgettable setting where music truly meets the mountains.
While you’re in Zermatt, make a quick stop at one of my favorite restaurants Zum See. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the Furi Gondola Or a beautiful 45 min hike from the village and it’s absolutely worth it. A must-try is their legendary Cremeschnitte, rust me on this one. The restaurant even holds 14 Gault Millau points, and yes… you got it, I’m a huge fan.
During the festival, don’t miss the Taste Village, where you can sample regional specialties, including Cholera, a comforting local pie made with potatoes, cheese, vegetables, and pastry, a true taste of the Valais region.
Amsterdam – Tulip Season
Spring in the Netherlands is magical, especially when millions of tulips begin to bloom. The city of Amsterdam becomes the gateway to one of Europe’s most colorful experiences.
Every spring the Tulip Festival Amsterdam celebrates the famous Dutch flower with displays across the city and surrounding countryside.
April is the perfect time to visit because the tulip fields are typically at their peak. Just outside the city you’ll find endless rows of vibrant flowers stretching across the landscape.
But Amsterdam offers much more than tulips. Visitors can enjoy:
~Scenic canals and historic houses
~World-class museums
~Cozy cafés and local markets
~Biking through charming neighborhoods
The 2026 Tulip Festival Amsterdam runs from March 19 to May 10, 2026.

Seville – Feria de Abril
Spring in southern Spain means one thing: celebration. The legendary Feria de Abril transforms the city of Seville into a vibrant spectacle of music, dancing, food and Andalusian culture from 21-26 of April.
During this week-long festival, locals dress in traditional flamenco dresses or elegant outfits, horse-drawn carriages parade through the fairgrounds, and hundreds of decorated tents (casetas) serve tapas, wine, and sherry late into the night. Entry to the fair is free, but many of the casetas are private and belong to families or associations.
One drink you definitely shouldn’t miss is the rebujito, a refreshing mix of sherry and soda that is typically enjoyed with tapas during the celebrations. The festival lasts about a week and traditionally ends with a spectacular fireworks show.
Waht to Expect:
~Flamenco dancing
~Beautiful Andalusian horses
~Endless tapas and local wine
~Live music and celebrations
Beyond the festival, Seville itself is one of Spain’s most captivating cities. It’s known for its Moorish architecture, lively squares, and historic landmarks like the Seville Cathedral and the Alcázar of Seville.
Another advantage? Seville is relatively close to Faro and the beautiful beaches of the Algarve. That means you can easily combine a cultural city trip with a relaxing coastal escape, two trips in one.

Madeira – The “Hawaii of Europe”
The portuguese island of Madeira is often called the “Hawaii of Europe” thanks to its dramatic cliffs, lush landscapes, and volcanic scenery. It’s a paradise for nature lovers and one of the most diverse islands in Europe.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Madeira is its microclimates. In just one day you can experience sunshine by the ocean, misty mountains, and cooler forest temperatures in the island’s interior.
The island is also a dream destination for hiking. Trails along the famous levadas (historic irrigation channels) take you through forests, waterfalls, and panoramic viewpoints over the Atlantic.
Food lovers will also be impressed by the island’s gastronomy. From fresh Atlantic seafood to traditional espetada (grilled meat skewers) and tropical fruits, Madeira offers a vibrant culinary scene that blends Portuguese traditions with island flavors.
A major reason to visit in April is the spectacular Madeira Flower Festival ( Festa da Flor), which usually takes place at the end of April. The island celebrates spring with flower parades, colorful decorations, and artistic floral carpets throughout the streets.
The Madeira Flower Festival 2026 takes place from April 30 to Mai 24, 2026.
